This site is a library and a listening room, not a service. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no cookies.
What stays on your device
To remember where you are, the player keeps a small amount of data in your browser's localStorage — it never leaves your device and we cannot see it:
- your listening position and finished markers, per chapter,
- your playback speed, theme, and text-size preferences,
- which chapter you last played (for the "Continue listening" card).
Every position is saved per chapter — start five chapters across three books and all five places are remembered independently, through refreshes, app updates, and restarts.
Keeping it safe
Because this data lives only in your browser, it has exactly one enemy: deleting the browser's data for this site. Three habits keep your places safe:
- Don't clear this site's browsing data (in "Clear History and Website Data" and similar tools) unless you've backed up first.
- On iPhone and iPad, use Add to Home Screen. Safari may clear the storage of ordinary websites it hasn't visited in a while; the storage of home-screen apps is left alone.
- Back up. The Aa panel has "Back up", which downloads a small file of all your places, finished marks, flags, and settings — and "Restore", which brings it back on any device (positions merge by keeping your furthest point).
There is nothing to delete on our side, because nothing is sent to us.
What the servers see
Like every website, the servers that deliver the files see standard technical request data (such as your IP address) for the moment of delivery:
- Netlify hosts the pages — see the Netlify privacy policy.
- GitHub hosts the audio episodes, slides, and ebook downloads — see the GitHub privacy statement.
We do not receive, store, or analyze any of that data ourselves.
